Parent Volunteers Descriptions

The Mountain West Montessori Parent Association is a vehicle through which parents have the opportunity to become an active part of the school community. The children benefit from seeing their parents "caring through action" about the total school environment and the staff benefits from the extra support, both concrete and in spirit given by the parents. The parents have the opportunity to become truly involved in their child’s education. Hopefully a true sense of community is the result!
Following is a list of the volunteer positions that parents can sign up for.

Room Mother  Each classroom will have a Room Mother that will work closely with the Guide as a link between the classroom and the parents. The Guide will use the aid from the Room Mother regarding filed trips, special notices to the parents & material making day requests.

Recess Volunteer Each classroom will have a designated volunteer parent that will accompany and supervise the children during recess at the school’s Playground. Specific day of the week will be assigned to 5 Parents per class that would like to volunteer once a week for 45 minutes between 11 and 12 noon. Organized games can be arranged once a week. There will always be a school Staff present during recess.

Material Making Day Volunteer and Coordinator. There will be a specific material-making day posted on the calendar once or twice a month. Meetings will be approximately 2 hours long. Guides will request via Room Mothers specific materials to be cut, pasted, drawn, sorted or glued in class or in the comfort of your home.

Book Reading. Children’s House classrooms would like to have parents volunteer their time to read an exciting book on a one to one basis with children who are at a reading level during the hours of 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sign up sheets will be available during Volunteer Meeting.

Vision and Hearing Tests The State of Texas requires Vision and Hearing tests for all children 4 years of age and older. Volunteer parents can get a total of 4 hour training to prepare and administer the tests. The tests are issued in a two-day time frame during our school year. Instead of using an agency, the parents are asked for a small donation that is given to the Parents Association.

School Carnival Volunteers . Children in the Elementary program organize a school Carnival for all children, family and friends to attend. The Elementary children create and tend their own booths and Parent Volunteers will take charge of the Food and Snack booths. This year, we will also be celebrating our Mt. West Montessori 20th Anniversary with various activities.

Parent Association Treasurer Parent volunteer to keep the books for the Parent Association’s fundraising money.

Staff Birthday Celebration Parent Volunteer brings a cake (Bought or homemade) to celebrate our Staff birthdays with the children. A list will be provided during the Volunteer meeting.

We thank you in advance for all your time and effort. We understand the importance of developing a strong and open communication with all parents. Through our volunteering programs we strive for a strong sense of community among all families and school. Welcome to Mt. West Montessori!
See you at school!
